Meet the Collector
If you’ve ever wondered what a “treasure hoarder” looks like in dog form, meet Spice. On any given day, my bed was covered in a mountain of dog bones, horse hooves, and chew treats. All of which she had meticulously gathered, carried, and carefully arranged around herself. Featured here is a perfect example: Spice, lying proudly amid her bounty, guarding every single piece with the seriousness of a royal queen protecting her crown jewels. Her dedication was hilarious, but also… surprisingly profound.
A Bone in the Car, a Lesson in Life
Spice never wanted to leave her treasures behind. I have a photo of her in the car, a single bone clenched proudly in her mouth, staring ahead like she was on a mission. Another shows her coming back from outside, still carrying her prize like a tiny furry bodyguard. Watching her, it hit me: we all have our “bones”. I am speaking of the things, memories, dreams, and values that we hold dear. Like Spice, we are called to carry them carefully wherever we go, and to never let go of what truly matters.
Digging, Burying, and Rediscovering
Spice had another trick up her furry sleeve: she buried her treasures all over the yard. Months later, she’d return to dig them up, as if reconnecting with something precious she never wanted to lose. There’s a life lesson in that: sometimes we “bury” the things that matter most, either for safekeeping or because life requires patience. But if it’s truly a treasure, we will always find our way back to it.
Hold What Matters Close to Your Heart
At first, I laughed at her obsession with bones. But over time, I realized the deeper message: life asks us to protect what we love, cherish our values, and carry our joys close to our hearts. Spice’s dedication to her treasures reminded me that the things most worth protecting aren’t always visible. They might be love, faith, dreams, or the quiet lessons life offers. And just like her, we can hold them close, even in the chaos of everyday life.
A Quirky Takeaway
Whether you’re a human or a dog, life is richer when you know what’s worth holding. So gather your treasures, guard them carefully, and don’t be afraid to carry them with pride. And if you can do it with a little humor, all the better.
